Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 4 large white onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tbs flour
  • 3 cans 10.5 oz each beef broth
  • 1 broth can of water
  • 1/4 cup dry red wine
  • 1/3 cup garlic flavored croutons
  • 4 slices of Swiss cheese

Directions

Heat broiler.* Melt butter in saucepan. Add onions, stir to coat with butter. Cover, cook 8 min. Add sugar, cook uncovered until onions are slightly golden. Add flour, cook 1 min. longer. Stir in broth, water, and wine. Cover, simmer 5 min. Place 4 bowls on baking sheet. Put croutons in each. Divide soup among bowls. Top each with a slice of cheese. Broil 3 min. or until cheese is melted. Place bowls on serving plates and serve with crackers.
