  • 2 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 cup sour milk (stir 1 tblsp lemon juice or white vinegar into sweet milk and let stand for 10 minutes to clabber)
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1 cup chopped raisins
  • rind of 1 orange, grated
  • Icing
  • 1/2 cup fruit sugar (icing sugar may be substituted if desired)
  • Juice of 1 orange
  • Directions (standard cake mixing order)
  • Cream butter.
  • Cream in brown sugar.
  • Beat in orange rind.
  • Beat in lightly beating eggs.
  • Sift salt with flour.
  • Stir baking soda into sour milk.
  • Beat flour and sour milk into batter alternately.
  • Stir in chopped walnuts and raisins until well incorporated.
  • Bake at 350 F for 45 minutes or unitl done.
  • Combine fruit sugar and orange juice and pour over hot cake in pan.
