Directions

Two cups of chopped bread, one-half cup of chopped su- et, one-half cup of molasses, one egg, one cup of stoned I'ai- sins, one cup of milk with one-half teaspoon of soda dissolved in it, one teaspoon of cloves, one of cinnamon, a little nutmeg and salt. Boil two hours in a double boiler.

Sauce: One-half cup of butter and one cup of sugar beaten to a cream ; add one egg well beaten and five table- spoonfuls of boiling water. Put in a bowl and set in the top of the teakettle until it thickens.
