The old-fashioned jelly cake was made with one cup of butter, two of sugar, three of flour, four eggs, and a cup of milk. It was baked either in thin layers with jelly between, or in a long pan, spread with jelly as soon as baked, and roll- ed while hot, sprinkled with powdered sugar. Now any cake preferred is used.
