Directions
Make a dough as soft as it can be rolled, of one pint of flour and one teaspoonful of baking powder sifted together, add half a teaspoonful of salt, chop up a heaping tablespoon- ful butter in the flour, mix with half a cup of milk or water. Divide the dough in two, roll one out about half an inch thick, spread with soft butter, then roll out the other half same size, place over the flrst one and bake in a greased pan. As soon as they are baked separate them, and when cold, put a thick layer of sweetened strawberries between the two crusts, sprinkle the upper crust with sugar. To be cut in slices and eaten with cream. Any other kind of berries or fruit may be used for short-cake — grated ])ineapple, grated cocoanut, and oranges sliced, are very nice.
