LADY BALTIMORE CAKE— One and a half pounds sugar, one and one-fourth pounds butter, one and one-half pounds flour, one and one-half tumblers of water, three eggs, one teaspoon baking powder. Cream the sugar and butter to a cream, add one egg at a time, stirring vigorously ; add one-half of the flour, then the water, then the remainder of the flour with baking powder. Flavor with vanilla. This makes two three-layer cakes. Filling — Dissolve three cups sugar in one cup boiling water, cook until it threads, then pour it over the well beaten whites of three eggs, stirring constantly. To this add one cup chopped pecans, one cup chopped raisins and figs cut fine.
