^ NE and a half pounds of sugar, one-fourth of a pound of s butter, one-fourth of a pound of chocolate, one cup of milk; boil twenty minutes, stirring all the time; add vanilla; spread thin on buttered tins.

Mix a half cup of grated chocolate and one cup of milk to- gether until perfectly smooth; put one cup of molasses and three cups of brown sugar on the stove in a greased pan, stir twenty minutes (try by dropping a little into a glass of water — ?f it hard- ens it is done); then put in the chocolate and milk and a piece of butter the size of a walnut; boil fifteen minutes more, stirring all the time; pour into buttered tins, and when cool mark with a knife.
