Ingredients

  • one cupful of butter
  • two cupfuls of sugar
  • one half cupfuls of flour
  • one cupful sour cream
  • two drops of bitter almond
  • one tea-spoonful of soda
  • eight eggs well beaten
  • two colors in the cake-mould to suit fancy

Directions

1

One cupful of butter, two cupfuls of sugar, three and one half cupfuls of flour, one cupful sour cream, one tea-spoonful of soda. Beat the butter and sugar to a cream ; add flour, soda and sour cream ; lastly, the whites of eight eggs well beaten, and two drops of bitter almond.

2

Measure out another portion as above, using the pink (or strawberry sugar) instead of the white, and the yelks of the eggs. Add raisins to the pink batter, to simulate seed ; pour boiling water over the raisins and let them stand to swell ; dust them with flour and mix in just before baking ; arrange the two colors in the cake-mould to suit fancy.
