Directions
One pound of flour, one pound of sugar, three quarters pound of butter, the whites of fifteen eggs in summer (sixteen in win- ter), two thirds of tea-spoonful of soda, one tea-spoonful of cream of tartar.
Sow to Mix It. — First, beat half of the whites to a stiff froth; add the sugar ; cream the butter thoroughly, and mix in the flour ; put the soda and cream of tartar both in the flour ; sift two or three times, then put all together, and beat well ; have the other half of the whites well frothed, and add, the last thing. — Miss Lutie J.
