Directions
^/^ of a pound of salt pork without lean or rind, chopped as fine as lard. Pour on % pint boiling water, i ^gg^ 2 cups sugar, i cup molasses, i tea- spoon soda, 2 cups raisins, i cup of currants, citron chopped, nutmeg, all-spice, cloves, cinnamon. Thicken as thick as loaf cake.

CHOCOLATE CAKE (devu.s' food.)
% cup butter, i]4 cups sugar, ^^ cup milk, 2 eggs, ^ cake of chocolate, dissolved in ^ cup of boil- ing water, i^ cups of flour, 2 teaspoons baking powder, i teaspoon of vanilla. Bake in 2 la3'ers and cover with icing, putting icing between the layers.
