- one half pound of gum arabic in one quart of water

Directions
Dissolve one half pound of gum arabic in one quart of water, strain, add half a pound of powdered sugar and place over fire, stirring continually until the sugar is dissolved and the mixture is the con- sistency of honey. Add gradually whites of four eggs, well beaten, until it loses its stickiness and does not adhere to the fingers. Now pour it into a pan dusted with corn starch, and when cool divide into small squares. Flavor with vanilla.
