i pound sugar, ^ pound butter, J pound flour, ^ teaspoon soda, 6 eggs, 1 wine glass sherry, 1 wine glass rosewater, 1 teaspoon cream tartar.

Mix the butter with § the flour, beat sugar and yolks together, the whites separately, then mix them alternately with the flour and butter. Add the liquor and sift the soda and cream tartar with the remainder of the flour and add last.
