2 cups sugar, 1 cup butter, ^ cup milk, whites of 10 eggs. 2i- teaspoons baking powder, 1 teaspoon vanilla, flour to make a rather thin batter.
Beat the whites of egg very stiff, adding them last. Bake in layers and put together with boiled icing.

4 pints flour, 1 pound butter, 1 pound sugar, 6 eggs, 1 pint milk, ^ pint yeast. Mix the flour and sugar, add 1 teaspoon caraway seeds, melt the butter, mix it with the milk, then stir it into the flour, and add the eggs and yeast. Stand in a warm place 4 hours. Roll it. cut and bake quickly.
