Ingredients
- one-half ounce salts of tartar
- one-half ounce of ammonia
- one half ounce of borax
- one gallon of boiling water
- one box of concentrated lye
- three pails of hot water use one-half teacup of this fluid
- one-half teacup of this fluid
- one water

Directions

One-half ounce salts of tartar, one-half ounce of ammonia, one half ounce of borax, one box of concentrated lye. Pour over this mixture one gallon of boiling water. (Keep it in a jug.) To three pails of hot water use one-half teacup of this fluid. Let the clothes boil twenty minutes in this, after having stood a few minutes in cold water. Rub through one water, and rinse them.
