Waffles. — One quart Dainty flour, quarter pound butter, two well beaten eggs, sweet milk to make moderately thin ; add one teaspoon salt, two teaspoons baking powder.

Batter Cakes. — Beat two eggs, add half pint sweet milk, one tablespoon melted butter, one and one-half cups sifted flour, one teaspoon baking powder; beat thoroughly and bake on griddle at once. — Mrs Rorer.
Batter Bread. — Beat very light one or two eggs, pour into them one and one-half pints fresh milk; add slowly one pint meal, beating all the time ; add half teaspoon salt and one tea- spoon of melted lard or melted butter size of an egg. Crumb Griddle Cakes. — One and one-half cups bread crumbs, two eggs, one cup Dainty flour, pinch salt, one tablespoon but- ter, one pint milk, two teaspoons baking powder. Scald the milk; pour it over the crumbs and butter and let stand until cool. Add the flour, salt, baking powder, yolks of eggs and lastly the stiffly beaten whites of eggs. Bake slowly on a hot
