Cut steak, or other nice lean beef, into small pieces, and simmer slowly in water enough to cover until very tender. Season to taste with butter, salt and pepper, and add tablespoonful of flour to thicken the gravy. Bake a shortcake, split and butter it, put the meat on one half, cover with the other half, pour gravy over it, and serve. K. A. L.
