Directions
Four large figs cut into bits and simmered in water enough to cover until very soft, rub through a fine sieve, add enough water to make one pint in all, add one cup sugar, three level teaspoonfuls cornstarch and boil ten minutes, then one tea- spoonful cornstarch and boil ten minutes, then one teaspoonful butter, the juice of one-half lemon (one tablespoonful) and serve as soon as the butter is melted.
