Ingredients

  • 1 pint flour
  • sufficient milk to make a stiff dough
  • melted suet for greasing
  • ¼ pound blanched and chopped almonds
  • 1 cup chopped raisins
  • ½ pound chopped apples
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • sugar for sprinkling

Directions

Add sufficient milk to 1 pint of flour to make a stiff dough; knead for 15 minutes.

Cut the dough into 4 pieces; roll each piece into a thin sheet about 1/16 inch thick.

Grease a roasting pan with melted suet, place a layer of the paste in the pan, and brush with melted suet.

Mix the almonds, raisins, chopped apples, and brown sugar together.

Put a layer of the mixture on the paste and cover with another layer of paste; brush with suet.

Repeat layering until all sheets of paste are used, brushing the top with suet and sprinkling with sugar.

Bake in a 400°F (200°C) oven for 45 minutes.
