Ingredients

  • For Tadka
  • 4-5 tsp: Ground nut oil
  • ½ tsp: Mustard seeds
  • ½ tsp: Cumin seeds
  • 5-6 no: Curry leaves
  • 3 pc: Chopped garlic
  • 2-3 no: Slit green chillies
  • 1 small pc: Ginger
  • For the Paste
  • Toor / Ahrar dal
  • ½ no: Grated coconut
  • 3-4 pc: Garlic
  • ½ tsp: Cumin seeds
  • ¼ tsp: Turmeric powder
  • ½ tsp: Coriander leaves
  • Salt to taste
  • ½ cup: Water

Directions

Prepare a paste of coconut, garlic and cumin seeds and keep aside.

Heat oil in pan. Prepare a tadka of mustard and cumin seeds, curry leaves, slit green chillies, garlic and ginger.

Now add the coconut paste to the pan along with turmeric powder, and salt. Sauté for 5 minutes till the tadka turns red.

Add pre-boiled dal and water. Wait for one boil.

Vaaran is ready.

Garnish with coriander and serve with rice.
