Ingredients
- 2 c. flour
- 2 c. sugar
- 2 sticks butter
- 4 tsp. cocoa
- 1 c. water
- 1/2 c. buttermilk
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp. soda
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- ICING:
- 1 stick butter
- 4 tbsp. cocoa
- 6 tbsp. milk
- 1 box powdered sugar, sifted
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 c. chopped nuts
Directions
Mix flour and sugar. Mix in saucepan the butter, and cocoa. Add water.
Bring to a rapid boil. Pour over flour and sugar mixture.
Stir well; add buttermilk, eggs, soda, cinnamon, and vanilla. Mix well; pour on greased cookie sheet with sides.
Bake at 400F. for 20 minutes.
Substitute for commercial buttermilk put 1 tablespoon vinegar or lemon juice in measuring cup. Fill to 1/2 cup with milk.
Mix together and bring to boil the butter, cocoa, and milk.
Remove from heat and add sugar, vanilla, and nuts. Spread on while hot.
