Six soda crackers, rolled fine, three cups of cold water, two cups of molasses, one cup of brown sugar, one cup of sour cider or vin- egar, one cup melted butter or chopped suet, a half cup of raisins^ seeded and chopped, a half cup of currants, two eggs, beaten light, one teaspoon each of cinnamon and cloves, salt, and a little nutmeg; eight or nine apples, chopped fine, and two cups of beef broth. I use this in preference to the old way, and no one has detected the imitation.
