Directions
3 cups sugar. 2 eggs.
1 cup sweet milk. 1 cup butter.
2 teaspoonfuls soda. 4 teaspoonfuls cream of tartar. Flavor with nutmeg or lemon.
Put the cream of tartar in the milk and mix with just flour enough to roll. Before cutting out sift over some pulverized sugar, and bake in a quick oven. Always good unless too much flour is used.

One cup of brown sugar, halt a cup of butter, half a cup of warm water and half a teaspoonful of soda. Flour to roll.

Mix and add flour to make stiff enough to roll. This makes forty cookies.
