  • 1 quart of cold water
  • a stick of cinnamon
  • a pint of port wine

Wash four ounces of pearl-barley, boil it in two quarts of water, With a stick of cinnamon, till reduced to a quart ; strain, and return it to the saucepan with sugar and three-quarters of a pint of port wine. Heat up, and use as wanted.

Well wash 4 oz. barley ; cover with 1 quart of cold water ; bring to the boil; simmer about h hour; steam into a jug ill which a small dessert spoon of sugar and the rind and juice of a small lemon have been put; cover till cool; remove the lemon rind, and it is ready for use.
