POOR MAN'S CAKE. One cup of sugar ; half cup of butter ; 1 cup of apple sauce ; 2 cups of flour; 1 teaspoon of soda; 1 cup of raisins. Spice to taste. Bake in loaf. Mrs. Geo. A. Burling.

CAROLINA POrNB CAKE. One pound of sugar ; 1 pound of butter ; 1 pound of flour ; 12 eggs, - or 1 pound ; 1 teaspoon cream tartar ; half teaspoon of soda. Cream sugar and yolks together, tihen add butter, cream thoroughly. Beat the whites stiff, gradually add flour and whites of eggs. Minnie S. Willis.
